UFV and CPA Course Configurations

Simultaneous Degree Studies—Entrance with Private Pilot Licence—Summer Pilot Training

This configuration provides students with their Private Pilot Licence in the summer that precedes the September start in UFV's School of Business.  It also provides for progressive pilot training at CPA during the Summer Semester when UFV course or suspended for the summer break.  For students who pursue the Flight Instructor Rating option, this configuration provides for the possibility of working at CPA as a part-time Flight Instructor in the final year of UFV courses.  For student not pursuing the Flight Instructor Rating, full qualification for the Group 1 Instrument Rating is accomplished in the Year 3 or Year 4.

Simultaneous Degree Studies—Entrance without Private Pilot Licence—Summer Pilot Training

This configuration is the most balanced for students pursuing only the Group 1 Instrument Rating, allowing for the completion of this in the summer of Year 3.  For Instructor students, the Instructor Rating is accomplished in the summer of Year 4, permitting the possibility of working at CPA as a part-time Flight Instructor in the final year of UFV courses.

Simultaneous Degree Studies—Entrance without Private Pilot Licence—without Summer Pilot Training

This configuration is balanced for students pursuing only the Group 1 Instrument Rating, allowing for the completion of this in Year 3.  For Instructor students, because pilot training is not undertaken the summer months, the Instructor Rating is delayed until the Year 4, permitting the possibility of working at CPA as a part-time Flight Instructor in the final semester of UFV courses.

Sequential Degree Studies—Accelerated Professional Pilot Training completed First Year

This configuration permits maximum focus on UFV courses as pilot training is completed in its entity prior to start of UFV's Year 1.  This configuration is also the best choice for those pursuing the Instructor Rating as it permits work as a Flight Instructor thoughout the four years of study at UFV.

Simultaneous Degree Studies—Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence Program

This configuration will be the most demanding on students as it presents 750 hours of pilot ground school instruction, in conjunction with full-time studies at UFV.  This ATPL program also provides for Multi-crew training  during UFV's Year 4 in the Boeing 747 Simulator.  Importantly, this program requires extreme commitment and dedication, owing primarily to the time demands on student, and does not, therefore, integrate well with the Flight Instruction option that appears in the other UFV/CPA configurations—the ATPL program is designed to provide training for the Group 1 Instrument Rating, however graduates could seek to pursue the Flight Instructor Rating separately upon completion of the UFV/ATPL studies.

Sequential Diploma Studies—Accelerated Professional Pilot Training completed First Year

Like the degree-program equivalent above, this configuration permits maximum focus on UFV courses as pilot training is completed in its entity prior to start of UFV's Year 1.  This configuration is also the best choice for those pursuing the Instructor Rating as it permits work as a Flight Instructor beginning in the Winter Semester of Year 1 at UFV.

Simultaneous Diploma Studies—Standard

This configuration provides for completion of the Group 1 Instrument and the Instructor Rating during the second year of UFV studies.  While Instructor-track students may be able to teach part-time a the end of Year 2, they will be qualified to pursue full-time work in Flight Instruction immediately after completing their UFV Diploma.
